Colonial Songs, Singing Games and Dances

Get ready to bounce those limberjacks and set to your partner. History on the Hoof’s Stacy Roth and music therapist/concert trumpeter Flora Newberry present their favorite rhymes, riddles, rounds, ditties and dance tunes from the 17th and 18th centuries. Fun for kids and adults. Lots of audience participation.

“I’ll Take No Tea!” Puppet Show

How much tea could the tax man tax, if the tax man could tax tea?

A pseudo-historical look at the Tea Party craze of 1773-74, Tucker’s Tale s’ “I’ll Take No Tea!” recounts the tale of the Colonies’ famous tax revolt as it’s never been told before. Follow our band of revelers as they put the “tea” in “team-work” and cause great grief for old King George and his tax collectors. Show includes live music (with historical costumes), and plenty of “revolting” action.

Colonial Tea Time for Little Grown Ups

Friday, December 28th 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

In the days of George Washington and Betsy Ross, tea from far away China was a special beverage with special customs and manners. Adults loved tea – and so did girls and boys. They learned how to serve it and host their own parties! Come feel like a grown up for an hour and join Revolutionary Tea hostess Stacy Roth from History on the Hoof for a cup of tea. Bring your favorite teacup and saucer, spoon, and small plate. Oh yes, and a favorite adult. For ages 7 and up.

“How the Battle of Trenton Was Won” Puppet Show

Saturday, December 29th 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm

A “mini” historical look at an amazing piece of our history presented with marionettes and rod puppets (and lots of help from the audience). Show includes live music, large puppets and props, and plenty of “revolting” action, courtesy of Tucker’s Tale s. Ages 5 and up.

Sword and Swagger

Monday, December 31st 10 am, 11 am and 1:30 pm

Two Revolutionary War officers have at it with sword and daggers. These expert swordsmen clash and clang and tell exciting tales of weapons used during the war for independence. At the end of the fight all’s well and the two combatants teach young folks their skills. Not to worry, during the lessons mock swords are used. Both of the combatants are certified master swordsmen from the American Historical Theatre . For children of all ages!
